Hopefully some new fighters. Either echos or straight-up new. I'd love some more 3rd party characters myself, especially indie ones.

Am I the only one terrified by that strange face thing in the new Castlevania stage? And the new moon assist trophy? But atleast we finally have Dark Samus!  I'm not playing that stage.  I'm trying to find out why my favorite characters always suffer in Character Reveal Trailers. Mega Man and Mario with Ridley, then they brutalize Luigi with Simon, and trash Dedede in Rool's. Not a SINGLE serious character has been taken down in those things. WHY!? What's wrong with liking "cute" charatcers? *Cries.* I'm more concerned about how they keep brutally maiming and/or worse their Mario Characters for big reveals. What next, Nero from DMC gets revealed and bisects Bowser? :-P Peach gets turned into a heartless for Sora? :-P I mean, they low-key implied Mario's neck got uh... I feel like it'd be better not to finish that sentence. And when Luigi got Reaped there was an oddly-coloured-but-suspiciously-placed liquid. Inb4 dark and gritty Mario Reboot. |

There is now internet work on demanding the confirmation that Luigi is alright, after that despicable trailer. :-P The Nintendo UK Twitter has said that Luigi is alright. This tweet scored 11K more likes than the actual trailer.  Do not underestimate Luigi. :-P M8-) |

That feel when the boards bug out and your post gets deleted... Anyhoo. Did some research, turns out the face is a she called Carmilla. We know her name because she's one of the monsters showcased later in the direct. And after looking up that name, it turns out she's a recurring character with many appearances. One of which matches up pretty well - as the penultimate boss of Castlevania 2: Simon's quest, which both sticks a connection to Simon and the look, since that's the only time she crops up as a porcelain mask from what I found (other times she was a skull or a normal Vampire). However, despite her prominence in the trailer, she's not a very popular boss in that game since she has two effortlessly avoidable attacks (a fire tear that splits into five projectiles, one of which is easily blockable, and spinning in a small circle that never comes close to the edge of the room.) Despite the ease of which she can be thwarted, she takes 256 hits to put down, making her a damage proportions. However, she's also known in one of her other incarnations for a stealth section boss fight, so given how prominent she is (sporting the second-to-last shot of the trailer), it's possible that she may serve a hybrid role with this incarnation, serving as a dangerous force should you be in the wrong place. That's just from what I found though. |

It's a boss.
On a stage.
That stage seeming to be the Ancestral Steppe. Which can, of course, only mean one thing.
One very, very important thing.
GUILDMARM FOR SMASH CONFIRMED???
Ok, it's probably Doodle, the nickname given to the Hunter from Monster Hunter 4, or just a generic Hunter overall. Although I can totally see the Guildmarm (who was a lady who supplied you with the single-player quests) as assist trophy material. But, either way, something to do with Monster Hunter is showing up, and it probably has something to do with one of the Monster Hunter 3DS games - so the third and fourth generations of the series, from Tri through to the soon-to-be-released-in-the-west Generations Ultimate. I'm counting on four myself because that's the game most associated with the Steppe, being the first hunting ground of that game, first introduced in that game and the site of your epic third showdown with Gore Magala. If there's a stage for it, then presumably there's a character associated with that stage, right? That's usually how it works, as far as I'm aware.
So, which Mario character will end up brutalised and/or worse when Doodle gets revealed? I'm betting Bowser, since he's the most Monster-ish. Either he's the target of the Hunter themselves, or losing a fireball contest with the Rathalos. Or perhaps he just gets Frenzied by the Gore Magala that, as I mentioned, you have an epic showdown with in the area.

Probably next. Almost all of the new characters seem to be ones that fans have been wanting for a long time. B. W. dee seems to be the most requested Kirby character, so if they ARE adding any more fighters, he probably will be revealed. |
