Review: Sonic Generations: (PC)
It took 8 years, but it happened


Well, I finally got Steam working and played the console version of Sonic Generations, and it was great. Most Sonic reviews start with some jab at Sonic's "rough past," but being a fan, I'm going to skip that bit. :-P I actually like most Sonic games I've played, so... 

Gameplay:
Playing with a keyboard is harder than playing with an ergonomic controller, but I got the hang of it. After the first few finger cramps, I was soon spindashing through loops and snagging rings and S Ranks with flair. The game does what Sonic games aim to do: Go fast through levels that LET you go fast. I didn't hit any "cheap shots," if I slowed down because of a wall, it was my own fault for making a blunder, or I simply wanted to slow down and snag a Red Star Ring. It's a very fluid run, and I appreciated that.

Music:
Unlike most Sonic fans, I'm not much for rock. (Hate it, actually.) However, Sonic still has some good tracks. After replacing "Escape From the City" with "Splash Hill Zone," I was set to show that G.U.N. Truck who's boss. Outside of those occasional songs, the soundtrack was great. While most fans will likely disagree with me on that, It Doesn't Matter, I'm giving it a 10 Ring score for the other songs.

Levels:
The levels of this game were all great. All of them. While I was most excited for Seaside Hill, (My personal favorite.) I had some surprising enjoyment of other stages. Crisis City was remarkably good. Planet Wisp was a bit of a difficulty spike, but, oh well.
9 out of 10 Rings: Very Good

Bosses: Some of the most legendary showdowns in Sonic history are here. From Metal Sonic to that savage beast Perfect Chaos. The Time Eater did not throw a wrench in my gears, as the radio was actually quite enjoyable. The controls for the Time Eater were tough, but I won with an S.

Other Random Stuff:
The game's just fun, I enjoyed skateboarding through San Francisco, and both Shadow the Hedgehog and Cream the Rabbit are in this game. (Perhaps not the common combo for favorite characters, but oh well.) What can you do to improve on that? :-P


It's been out for a long time, and I doubt this will make anyone buy the game, but I had fun. I'm giving Generations a total score of 9.25. Gotta Go Fast!

Alright, so that Direct has come and gone. I don't know the full general consensus, but I enjoyed it. Terry and Banjo are not my things, but with more Smash Characters, I can still hope for other stuff. (I can still hope for a new Kirby or Sonic character, right?)

Luigi's Mansion looks good, and a story mode on a console version of Mario and Sonic is a first. Count me in.  

And we got a new Kirby game. That's an automatic win for me, even if it's a microtransaction system.

*Sinks back into textbooks, with occasional Kirby sounds being heard every few hours.*
