What I mean by that is the gameplay aspect, not which particular incarnation the character is. Very few people kicked up a fuss when Skylight Prinsword Link was revealed for 4 :-P . What I mean is the gameplay of the character. BOTW link wouldn't be able to use the Hookshot on account of the fact he... doesn't have a hookshot. His bombs would work differently as well, and his combat skills are different. He'd be a different character altogether. Thus, people would complain that a Smash 1 veteran (Link as we know and love him, leftie and all) wouldn't be in the game. |

In SSB WiiU/3DS we have:
Mario: Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Peach, Rosalina and Luma, Dr. Mario, Bowser Jr., And then and Wario and Yoshi, although they are somewhat on their own because they get their own spin off series. so 7 or 9 depending on how you look at it.
Zelda: Link, Toon Link, Ganondorf, Shiek, Zelda. 5
FE: Marth, Ike, Robin, Lucina, Roy, Corrin 6
FE wasn't even all that popular 'til recently! Just let there be a third Link. Makes everyone happy. :-P
Also there had better be Bandana Waddle Dee. Otherwise my sister isn't gonna be happy. :-P

I prefer Sailor Dee, but he isn't really popular for some reason =P Prooobably because he's only appeared in one sub-game Wheras Bandana Dee's technically a main character. Technically.
